Realtime Nonlinear Editing
Matrox RT2000 lets you work with two video streams and a 32-bit, uncompressed, animated graphics layer in real time. Choose from organic and 3D transitions, 2D and 3D DVE, and transparency effects – in real time, NO RENDERING!
The realtime editing power of RT2000 gives you the creative freedom to experiment. There’s no penalty for changing your mind. Everything happens instantly, at full online quality, and you see the results immediately on your PAL or NTSC monitor.
Instant random access to any frame in your project gives you a very responsive realtime scrubbing interface. You can see what's happening at any point in your timeline, at full quality, whenever you want – without waiting for a preview to render.

Native DV and MPEG-2 Editing

Native DV Editing

DV is a high-quality format that has been widely accepted by broadcasters and professional video editors. To realize the full quality potential offered by DV, your editing system must share a common bitstream with your DV camera and VTR. Ideally, you record DV in your camera, then digitally transfer your DV material via a 1394 interface to your editing system in the material’s native format. This way, you avoid recompression passes that degrade the quality of your video when you convert to MPEG-2 or M-JPEG. You also avoid analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversions that would be necessary without the 1394 link.
Matrox RT2000 provides native editing for all DV formats including Panasonic DVCPRO, Sony DVCAM, Sony Digital-8, and the consumer DV format used by Sony, JVC, Canon, Sharp and Panasonic.

MPEG-2 Editing

If you are acquiring video from an analog source, you can choose to edit in DV or in MPEG-2 4:2:2 I-Frame. Matrox RT2000 lets you capture and edit video in the MPEG-2 I-Frame format at variable bit rates between 10 and 25 Mbps. Whereas DV is fixed at 25 Mbps, MPEG-2 lets you digitize video at lower bit rates so you can make the trade-off between storage space and video quality when working on long form projects. You can offline at the lower bit rates and then autoconform at higher quality MPEG-2 or DV.
MPEG 2 I-Frame is a better format for editing than MPEG-2 IB or IP that you may have heard about because it gives you instant access to every frame in realtime for frame-accurate edits, fast cuts and seeks, and a responsive scrubbing interface.

Broadcast-Quality 3D Effects

Matrox RT2000 harnesses the power of the Matrox Millennium G400 graphics accelerator via the revolutionary new Matrox Flex 3D architecture to deliver realtime, broadcast-quality 2D/3D DVE and transitions. With MEGA Pack, you get over 1,000 realtime filters and transitions including particle effects, 3D tiles, distortion effects, page curls, organic wipes and 2D and 3D DVEs. You can keyframe perspective settings such as rotation, size and position. The fact that Flex 3D is fully programmable means that additional effects can be easily added via supplementary software.
The revolutionary Matrox Flex 3D architecture gives you an unlimited variety of 2D and 3D digital video effects and transitions in real time, at the full quality level of conventional broadcast 3D DVE equipment, but at a small fraction of the cost. It also gives you much more creative freedom than competing products that only provide slow software rendered effects while you sit and wait.

Versatile Analog and Digital Input/Output
Matrox RT2000 supports all the input/output connections you’ll need to get the most from your editing system.
- Y/C and composite video input/output provides capture from analog cameras and output to tape.
- On-board 1394 input/output interface performs digital transfers to and from DV tape. Device control and batch capture support are included.
- 48 kHz stereo audio input/output genlocked to video ensures perfect lip-sync.
- MPEG-2 output supports distribution applications such as DVD and CD authoring.
- RealVideo, Windows Media, and Quicktime outputs let you prepare your program for web video streaming.

Advanced Productivity Tools
Matrox RT2000 includes a variety of unique productivity tools to save you countless hours in the editing suite.
• Matrox Infinite Capture ™ overcomes the 2 GB AVI file size limit of Video for Windows and the 4 GB file size limit of the FAT32 file system used in Windows 98 by providing seamless capture and playback of video clips of unlimited size from within Adobe Premiere.
• Accelerated print-to-disk quickly puts your realtime sequences into a DV or MPEG-2 file for storage, archiving, DVD authoring, etc.
• Accelerated image transfer of video frames to system memory over AGP increases performance of host-based software effects.
• Versatile Video-for-Windows software codec lets you read and write RT2000-compatible AVI files without having an RT2000 installed in your system. This means you can create and manipulate RT2000 AVI files on another computer using popular compositing and 3D animation packages such as After Effects and 3D Studio MAX.
• 1394 interface software provides camera/VTR control to facilitate frame-accurate clip logging, batch capture, and print-to-tape.
• Realtime audio and video preview during DV capture lets you hear and see your material exactly as it is recorded onto your hard disk.
• Hard disk benchmark utility ensures optimal system performance.
